Coussies

This is my entry for the Little Gray Wardens challenge at . Well, this is a family portrait. Sorta.

Wow, this required a lot of character’s psychology digging!
Ok, so that’s how things are in my version. Marga Cousland and Alistair are both Gray Wardens (Anora is the Queen). Ma Coussie is a tough and bossy woman who is used to taking action, making hard decisions and wearing armor. She once suggested that she and Alistair should kiss; and she got him into bed before he knew what’s going on; and of course, she persuaded him to accept Morrigan’s offer in a heartbeat. She is social and capable leader, while he likes to follow, not to lead. They had their share of equality moments, but most of the time, she is the head and boss and saviour of everything, and he is the follower and keeper of home. They managed to have some quiet nights together during the years, I imagine. When Bruno was born, Alistair became his father and mother as well.

At first, I thought Marga’s duty meant everything to her and she did not really get attached to her baby. But then I realized that she only got more distant and fierce to protect her son, by making the world a less dangerous place to live in. That’s her way of loving him. Alistair will play with Bruno, share secrets with him and bring him up. And Marga will make sure that her son will be safe and will never experience same amount of pain that she did.
I hope this can be considered a story.

Bruno is named after Bruno Pelletier (that man has le voice divine ). I’m not particularly fond of the name, but it fitted somehow. Marga and Alistair decided not to name their son after anyone so he would have a different destiny (well, they might have same superstition like we do). I thought the kid must have some side affects of his both parents being Wardens (that must be painful =\), but I guess he adjusted somehow in the womb.
